How can I keep from having to restart large downloads?

Hello, I have slow dial-up (about 4-6 kbps for downloads), and am trying to download a large file. Because of my dial-up, if someone calls my house, the Internet connection disconnects, and I have to restart the download all over again. How can I prevent this from happening? I know some previous times, when I have downloaded files, the file has been downloaded into some sort of temporary folder, and it just picks up from where it left, but I'm not sure exactly how to do that. Will using a different browser help? I am using Mozilla Firefox. Please help! Thanks, guys. Speedbit is big though, too, but if someone calls again, and I have to restart the download, I will download Speedbit first. Thanks again!
