Downloads and Uploads

What software and/or cables do I need to upload tv clips to my computer to then share via email or youtube?

Besides software, what type of cable do I need to transfer tv clips to my computer. Do I have to hook cables from my tv to the computer? Please explain in full details. I understand about copyright laws; I'm just interested in sharing some interviews with friends, so I don't necessarily have to put them on youtube. Thank you.
