How do you clean your desktop of unwanted downloads and files?

I have a Dell desktop with Windows XP and I was just wondering how I can clean my computer of downloads and files i dont want. I usually go to internet properties and do the "delete temporary internet files" and history, but I dont think that deletes everything. Thanks in advance.

1. Easiest way is to drag what you don't want to the recycle bin.

4. I would run "Disk Cleanup". Start-All Programs-Accessories-System Tools-Disk Cleanup
