Downloads and Uploads

Using P2P sharing software such as Limewire uploads causes bandwith to be used, what other programs?

My internet connection slows when uploads are made through P2P file sharers. What are some other ways that bandwith can be used up and it will slow my internet connection? What other programs, etc.?

1. if ur uploading or downloading files it uses alot of bandwidth ...
2. If you are running a real time virus scanner that will slow you down but not use bandwidth. Depending on how your firewall is configured can slow you down also. Any programs with an automatic update can connect without your knowing as can spyware and trojan horse viruses. Otherwise all you can do is shut down as many background programs as possible, just not your firewall or antivirus, that would be asking for big trouble. Or pay for a faster connection.
