Downloads and Uploads

When someone uploads a file from my computer, does it slow down my downloading?

i mean like on p2p softwares and stuff.. does someone's upload slow me down?

YES when you download a file(fileA) you computer can only recivived bit by bit at a time(packets) so it needs to tell the site that i recivied that file and needs the next one. so it uploads just a little but back to the site, if you are someone is uploading from you, that slows the download your too. this apply to all internet activiy :) that y leecher(when you don't share) is such a bad name:(

4. Time for some basic internet rules all connections have a finite amount of data that can be transferred at once, this is referred to a bandwidth. So naturally if you are trying to push more data through each process will take longer. Network traffic in either direction is broken up into packets, each packet has headers, trailers, and a payload. Contrary to popular belief only one packet can be send/received at a time, so when you perform multiple operations the computers involved are sending the packets in a stream that is mixed for both requests. The packet headers control the routing of the data and reassemble the data into the original file. Two files don't necessary mean only twice the time. Most connections to the internet are through Ethernet connections and the more traffic on a Ethernet node the more packets will collide and have to be resent. So as traffic increases the time delay increase by more than just a linear progression.
